Three times the heat

I often get comments about my height and physical appearance. Most of them are super positive, and especially men tend to comment on my body and specific features of it. (Kind of natural, considering what I am doing.)

I am 1.62 m and just a breath over 50 kg, so if I had to sum myself up in one word, I would say that I have a very petite appearance.

So, a petite woman in her 50s (just a few days left now) who is actually pretty chest-heavy with C-cups…

(Now I am losing the topic again. I will deal with my boobs in another post.)

SO…..

I am small.

I am not what you would call a muscularly built lumberjack who can carry a 70 kg backpack, a wood-burning stove, a 30-square-meter tent and two dogs on her back and then head out into the wilderness to cut down trees.

Dear reader, you are probably thinking, “Where is she going with this?”

And I need to apologize once again for my ability to drift away from the actual topic, so I will do my best to get back on track!

What I wanted to say was this:

Even though I am small like a delicate little bird, I actually pack a punch.

I spent many years living in a cabin in the woods with no other option for heat during winter (and some summers…) than cutting down trees, tending to the logs and finally splitting it all into firewood.

Today, my living situation is a bit differentβ€”an apartment close to the cityβ€”and I honestly don’t miss the cabin at all.

BUT…

I do miss certain things about it.

And one of those things has to do with firewood.

(It took some time, but FINALLY I got to the point.)

I MISS A FIREPLACE!

A wise man once said that good wood…

Don’t get naughty now.

…warms your body three times.

The first time when you gather it in the forest.

The second time when you split and stack it.

And the third time when you finally get to light a warm, cozy fire.

Of those three, I only miss the last one.

But OMG, I miss it a lot.

Β

I know there are those videos on YouTube of a burning fire, and I must admit that they can look amazing, but they are far from the real thing.

I miss the sound.

I miss the smell.

I miss the heat that eventually makes you want to undress and get cozy in front of it.

There is a good reason fireplaces are used in so many romantic moments in movies and TV series. Nothing is better than a cozy blanket, a dark room, a nice wine (and good company), and just dreaming away while the reflected light from the fire dances around the room.

It gives you a show that is never the same and somehow never stops being fascinating.

When I took the pictures you can see here in this blog, I thought I was going to write about how powerful I am despite being petite.

But every time I tried, my thoughts kept returning to the actual result of splitting all that wood:

The fire.

Eventually, I gave up and decided to write about how much I miss it and complain a little about the fact that I don’t have a fireplace anymore. πŸ˜‰

ANYWAY…

If you haven’t tried it, you should.

Book a place that has a fireplace in the room. Travel there with someone you like, love, care for, are interested in, etc., etc., and just give it a go!

Buy some wine and really good snacks that are not sticky.

Put on cozy clothes. (Your favorite PJs are probably the best option.)

Sit down.

And just talk.

If you try too hard to make it pretentiously romantic, it might fail. Just work with the simple things and see what happens.

An evening like that can end in many different ways, but some of the more common ones are:

Romantic lovemaking.

Romantic and fun sex.

Fun sex.

Sex.

Or simply two people falling asleep in each other’s arms in front of the fire, only to wake up in the morning with pain in body parts they didn’t even know they had.

BUT one thing is for sure:

All of them can become great memories.

Because of the fire.

THE FIRE IS MAGICAL.

Conclusion

Even though I tend to stray off topic, I eventually reached a conclusion that I already knew:

Fireplaces are the best romantic catalyst there is, and that is not debatable.

The work it takes to gather and prepare the wood is nothing I care for anymore. I enjoyed moments of it, but doing it every day is hard work.

The result of all that labor, though?

One of the best things in the world.
